Hello friends

Hi, I'm Kelly!

Hi! I’m a mom of two and a passionate music educator who believes in the power of music to bring joy and connection. I am a classically trained musician from Western University, and a qualified teacher. For several years, I taught music in elementary schools before starting Beat Buddies Music during my maternity leave.

What began as a small local program has now grown into a vibrant community offering both in-person music classes in the Ottawa Valley and interactive virtual classes for families all across North America.

I absolutely love watching babies and young children discover their natural love of music. My goal is to create classes that are not only joyful and engaging, but also give parents practical tools to bring music into everyday life at home. Together, we'll explore sound and movement through singing, dancing, and playing a variety of rhythm instruments.

I can’t wait to make music with you and your little one!

Questions?

Is my baby too young to start classes?

There is no minimum age, you can join with the youngest little ones! That being said, the experience changes a bit depending on your child’s age. For a younger baby, you will follow my guidance to interact with your baby directly, with the main intention being exposure to music and sounds. In contrast, an older toddler will usually interact more directly with me and will play instruments much more independently. There are great benefits in musical exploration for both age groups!

Can siblings attend together?

Yes! Our classes are family-friendly, and siblings are welcome to join.

What do I need to bring to an in-person class?
Just bring yourself, your little one, and a willingness to have fun! All instruments and props (scarves, parachute, etc.) are provided.

What do I need for a virtual class?
You’ll need a device with Zoom access and some space for movement. If you have rhythm instruments like shakers or drums, great—but household items like spoons or Tupperware work too!

Do you offer drop-in classes or do I need to register for a session?

For in person classes: Due to the limited number of spaces available for these classes, drop-in options depend on whether or not a class has reached registration capacity. However, if you want to try a class out, have a friend visiting from out of town, or your situation only allows for you to drop in occasionally, send me an inquiry and I can let you know if there is any availability!

For virtual classes: If your kiddos are home sick, or you want to try out a virtual class, drop ins are usually easier to accommodate for virtual classes. Please send me an inquiry to set this up!

Is virtual class too much screentime for my baby?

The screentime recommendations provided by both the Canadian Paediatric Society and the American Academy of Pediatrics specifically exclude the screentime of video chats with direct interaction. My classes are designed to be just like a facetime call between me and your child. I speak directly to the children, ask questions and leave pauses for responses. The classes are very engaging, yet move at a calm and appropriate pace for this developmental level. Most babies and toddlers remain engaged for the duration of class. Parental engagement can also greatly help them too! Of course, do what you feel is best for your family in regards to screentime, and you are always welcome to come in and out of class if needed to regain attention.
